Content descriptions
General Note: | Born in 1794 in St. Mary's County, Maryland, Thomas Henry was a slave until after his master's death and he had reached twenty-one years of age. Raised in the Catholic faith, as a young adult he worked for a German Methodist who was kind to him. As a free man he felt called to be a Methodist minister where he did preach for a short time. When one church refused to let him preach, he changed to the African Methodist Episcopal Church. The rest of the narrative tells of the different churches he ministered to on his circuit and some of the people he met. Text transcribed by Apex Data Services, Inc. Images scanned by Elizabeth S.
